If you want to knit a whole blanket, you can make it however you want. One suggestion is the Log Cabin Knit blanket found in Mason-Dixon Knitting. Or many others on Ravelry or other knitting sites.
If you only have time to make part of a knitted blanket, here’s what to do:
Using any stitch pattern you like,
Knit a square or a strip that is 4 inches wide when blocked. These will be pieced together to form a blanket.
Our only requirement: Please use a cotton or cotton blend yarn for durability and non-pilling effects. Some quality acrylics are available at better stores. Please DO NOT use Red Heart brand yarn. It is scratchy, especially to children, and doesn’t look pretty when washed.
